When Cameron Was In Egypt’s Land…..Let My Cameron Go….
Tell me that this is “planned” and that not everyone gets this banner as an option when they finish the Blog Survey at MIT? Tell me that the ONLY reason I have it is that the program they use to check out the site picks up certain keywords (such as your name) when it does it’s business, and then makes up a banner in your honor? Tell me that others get their own name as a banner option when they do the survey? I mean that would make perfect sense, yeah? If you check the code out it actually says “http://blogsurvey.media.mit.edu/images/survey-cameron.gif“.
And if not – who the hell IS Cameron and why does he, or she, need to be freed?
Of course I’m probably going to have to do some Googling to find out some more information myself, but I’m just curious? Is there a Cameron of some significance at MIT or is it just the result of some code crunching, banner creating, bot like type program that likes to bamboozle people into thinking that there’s something more than meets the eye out there? Hey, it worked for me so why not? Or am I just gullible? Is it some kind of techno wizardry reaching out to me or am I just clutching at straws? Is there intelligent life out there somewhere, or have I just lost the plot?
Someone PLEASE tell me!!!!!
Of course if anyone actually wants to do the survey at MIT just click on the banner. It doesn’t take long to do and, who knows, at the end of it you may be asking these VERY SAME QUESTIONS yourself? You may also end up hating me for setting you off on this task. Sorry about that!
On other Internetty/Bloggy type matters, the folks at Blog Explosion have re-vamped their Battle Of The Blogs game – and I have to say it’s A LOT better now! The progress of the voting is not revealed until after the battle has finished so there’s not so much of the “Oh, So-and-So is winning. I’m gonna vote for the other guy!” type voting. Another HUGE improvement is that voters will ONLY get points awarded to them if the blog they vote for ACTUALLY WINS. This means that they are more likely to vote for who they think is the best blog – or else there’s not much point in voting at all. Of course there would still be some RAT BASTARDS who just want to stir things up (for whatever half-assed reason), but most people will actually have to give SOME THOUGHT to their votes! By far THIS improvement is THE BEST thing to happen to BotB thus far!
I’ve noticed that the improvements have already had a positive impact on some of the blogs who have been competing (I’d have to say most of the BETTER blogs if the truth be known). Instead of an insipid 50-50 win/loss ratio – in an attempt for many voters to “even up” the playing field – many blogs that DESERVE to win for one reason or another usually DO win nowadays! Yippee!! Order has been restored to the universe somewhat! As a result of this the average percentage for the 50th ranked blog has risen about 3-4% – though time will tell if the increase of percentage is real or whether it’s just a blip in the scheme of things? Another bonus – actually this one had been occurring for a couple of weeks or so now – is that many people’s blogs have actually got MUCH BETTER, either in content or design. That can only be a good thing for both them, and for the Blogosphere as a whole.
Will it be enough to coax me back into playing BotB? Well, not just yet. At the moment I’m in the number one position at around 90% and I don’t think there’s any point in mucking about with that in the short term. Not unless I start slipping down places at least. Then again if I feel that I’m losing my place to better blogs than mine then I won’t mind that one little bit!
Ohhh yeah, and Tom Cruise is a sissy mommy’s boy!

Cameron is the student at MIT who wrote the survey. I’m sure you are “freeing” him from his project by helping him finish it up with your answers.
I received the same Cameron image choice but I chose the “I am a statistic” image for my blog because I had some issues with the way the survey was conducted from an institutional view.
Ahhh OK. That makes sense. A mere coincidence then? Yeah, there were one or two strange aspects to that survey. Can’t remember offhand what they were, but I did think “Why did they ask that?” or “Why are THEY the choices?” once or twice…
Hi Cameron!
Yes, the survey was confusing, not well-written, and a bit disorganized.
It was an excellent idea that was, IMHO, poorly executed.
You can see many of our friends participated by the bugs they put on their blogs.
Imagine if really compelling questions had be proffered!
Damn, I thought I’d get a free Cameron if I did the survey! Not gonna do it now!
Here Here on the Tom cruise bit. Mom says he might need meds himself. He does indeed seem to be going off the deep end.
I took the survey… it did seem a bit lacking… but then surveys and the way they’re conducted constanly seem a bit slanted. I put up a link in a post to you to perhaps draw people your way. Have a great day!
Yeah, I took the survey, too. I didn’t think the questions I was asked showed any statistical value…The choices they made from my blog for me to answer questions about were pretty weird since I have a lot of pix and links. So, took the test, thought it was weird, didn’t care if Cameron was free or not.
boles – You’re right about the excellent idea part. I clicked on the survey to start thinking “Ohh, this could be interesting”…….and….it wasn’t! I did see that others had done the same survey while surfing on BE so I decided to see what it was all about. I suppose in a way I’ve accidentally “memed” myself?
Amy – How many “Camerons” do you want, dear? Tom’s a TOOL. As Bob The Builder would say “Can we fix it!”. Sadly, no!
Square1 – Thanks for the link. It’ll probably confuse Technorati more (apropos of my previous post), but that’s their problem. You have a great day too.
Princess Wild Cow – I was the same. I thought “Damnit! Why did they choose THOSE links??” I just answered what they asked and that was that…..I think that’s how surveys work anyhow?
I care if ONE Cameron is free or not, but the others….eghh, they can duke it out themselves….
Cam..one of each sex..just like Noah and the ark…
Amy – Is there something you’re not telling me?
