Sith Happens!
I had some inspiration from Christian’s site today. He’d just been to see Star Wars III: The Revenge Of The Sith and he thought it was pretty darn good, so I decided to do the same this morning.
I was always going to see the latest Star Wars installment but it was just a question of when. Well, when was today! On a whim I thought “why not now?”, so I checked out the times at my local theaters – there’s four major ones within 12 minutes of my home – and saw the 10.00 am session at The Regency. I had no idea if it was going to be booked out or not and, thankfully, it wasn’t.
The film was pretty good! I liked it a lot. Obviously it answered many questions – why did Anakin Skywalker turn to the dark side, how Luke and Leia were separated ect. – and I felt it was the best installment of the recent three. I have to add that I preferred The Empire Strikes Back to the original Star Wars so, for me anyway, it’s not always the case of sequels not being as good as the original.
All of the political overtones that people around the net are referring to ARE there. Of course it may be coincidental but when you hear Anakin Skywalker say “If you’re not with me then you are my enemy” it does echo what little Georgie Bush said a few years back. Plus the whole Federation power corrupting thing and the disassembly of the Senate’s powers draws a parallel to what’s been happening to the worlds most powerful nation of late.
One thing I can’t understand though – and it was the same for Star Wars II: Send In The Clones, or whatever it was – is how come that little green nutcase, Yoda, creaks and groans his way around the place with the aid of a stick only to become a Ninja Mo-Fo when it comes to the fighting? I mean that little twerpy bugger flits and flies around the place like a muppet possessed but when it’s all over again he’s like “Ohh, my back. Where’s my walking stick?” It’s uncanny I tells ya! Mind you I like seeing the little bugger go about his business – I just don’t understand how he does it? And before you say “Ohh, it’s The Force. He uses The Force to do that”, I know that. It’s obvious. But where can I get hold of some of that for my arthritis??
I also find it interesting how the space ships are much cooler in the prequels than they are later on in the…..sequels….I know some of the ships are pretty much the same but those ones from Naboo are pretty damn slick!
Like many people I first saw the original Star Wars when it first came out – many times over. I collected the cards, posters, books, figures and whatever else was going and I loved each sequel that sprung from it. In recent years my enthusiasm has waned somewhat, but I’ve still enjoyed the….um….prequels…..It gets confusing sometimes, don’t it? All these sequels and prequels stuff!
I even recorded on tape some “comedy versions” of Star Wars when I was a kid. My best friend, Adrian, and I “acted out” Mad Magazine and Cracked Magazine’s versions of Star Wars with special effects, silliness and stupid kiddy voices and I still have that tape kicking around here somewhere.
Now maybe I should get those out and digitize them for future generations?
