More Than Meets The Eye!

That’s what I’m finding with this “blogging” deal. There’s just so much to learn! Trying to find out what rss feeds are and how to work them and about “pinging” and whether or not the auto email update works on the blog (at the moment I don’t think it does but I’m looking into it). I’m also learning about categories and deciding if I’ll need them and what they’ll be called if I do? Another thing I need to look into is putting links within the posts themselves where necessary (which isn’t hard at all really) and just what it is that this “Press It” bookmark does on my browser? Obviously most blog minded newbies need to learn this at some stage but right now my brain is steadily turning to mush!

I asked my still-legal-but-not-quite-social wife, Amy, about blogs in general as she’s been running her own one now for a year or so. She thought I was interrogating her and closed right up about it, suspecting me of some malfeasance, no doubt? It was weird because here I was, somewhat excited and ready to learn, and she thought I was testing her out or something? In the end I said I’d Google it and told her not to worry. She muttered some not so desirable things under her breath and went to bed. No doubt things will be different again in the morning?

So I Googled and yay, verily, yay I learned! Not a lot exactly, but enough to keep me going. I learned that it was important to write about the things you know and like (OK, no surprise there) and to write well and update frequently (may be a problem there, but who knows?)

I also learned that it was important to exchange links and comment on other blogs of interest to you (now c’mon! How many blogs out there are gonna be on making obscure 18th century woodworking tools, 3 dimensional popup children’s books and hand made harpsichords by lesser known Italian makers starting with “K”? Really, what were they thinking!)

Then again I may surprise myself?

Another thing I need to do – soonish – is an “About Me” page. Possibly even include some photos and info on some of the things I’ve made and done over the years? Did I mention I was an artisan? That’s just a smart ass way of saying “artist” or “carpenter” or some other probably much more descriptive and direct term.

I also probably need to clean up the presentation of the blog a bit, graphically speaking.

So it’s not all been beer and skittles here today! We’ve had our moments, Amy and I. One cool thing though was that our friend Daniel came over for a visit and brought the smallest 60 gig external hard drive I’ve ever seen – not that I’ve seen many, but still. It was very cool looking but, unfortunately, didn’t work very well! Enough of the “geek talk” though.

I’ve known Daniel for about 24 years now I think? He and I used to be in a band together in the mid 1980′s called “Road Menace”. Didn’t really get anywhere with it but we played a couple of dozen or so gigs in the local pubs and bars around town. Daniel came to our wedding in the States along with Adrian, another buddy of mine who I’ve known for 36 years now. Adrian was also in “Road Menace” and played keyboards. Now he still plays keyboards a la Rick Wakeman at various places around town where he shows trashy b-grade movies on a screen behind him. Quite a good show if you’re into that kinda thing? Can’t say I’m huge on it though but I do appreciate that he does things like that.

I should add that it was revealed to me the other day by Amy that she once had a bit of a crush on Daniel. This was news to me (and Dan when she repeated it today to him) but then I shouldn’t be too surprised. After all Amy has had a crush on virtually everybody in the past couple of months – everybody that is except for me, her husband. :-)

Ohhh, and my football team lost today! Now before you get all smarty ass on me I’m referring to Australian Rules Football rather than the more skills based soccer type football that the whole world plays and loves. Although I’m awestruck by some of the skills I’ve seen in that game I actually prefer something that scores frequently (like Paris Hilton) and is not quite as frustrating to watch (OK, scratch that idea).

To top things off I accidently posted a personal email about what’s been happening around here lately to a mailing list group which I run! Now everybody who receives the Richard E Grant mailing list is gonna know! Ohh well, can’t be helped now!

What’s that old saying? If you live by the sword you die by the sword? I think I’ve just committed hare kari?

O my god Cam..did I really say that to Daniel? Weird..the things you don’t remember saying when you are mentally ill!

Yup, you did Ames. Well you made him smile so I guess he must have been pretty happy to hear it?
