Guesting 1 2 3

OK, I think there was something in the ether’s yesterday as I’m feeling much better today. Not 100%, but a lot better than I was. I threw myself into some site coding/updating/rejuvenating today and that seemed to do the trick. Thinking about other things definitely helps! Playing with pups helps too – though it rained a lot today and there was much of that “wet puppy” smell in the air! Still, there was plenty of loud barking (I join in too sometimes and that really gets both dogs going) and crunchy puppy treats to be had. It’s funny how most of the pasta I buy is for the dogs. For instance I bought six packets last week, of which I’ll probably only have one….maybe two. The rest is for the dogs and they do love it. Hell, it’s gotta be one of the cheapest treats too!

Apart from the website stuff I haven’t actually been that productive today, though I have been reading a lot – both online and off. I’ve been invited to “guest blog” for The Smirk which I’m really looking forward to. It’s not for another month but at least that’ll give me enough time (hopefully) to actually think about something to write. There’s been some pretty impressive guest posts already so I’m more than a little nervous!

I really like the idea of “guest posting” and I think that whoever thought of it first was a genius! I mean, for one thing, it’s a great honor I feel. It’s basically saying “We think you’re cool enough / good enough writer / interesting enough or whatever to write a post on our blog. Will you do it?” How the hell could you say no to that? I couldn’t! My ego wouldn’t let me!

**Smacks ego down again cause it’s getting too feisty**

In some way I guess it also means that the person asking you to guest on their blog doesn’t find your writing too self-indulgent or mediocre…..Well maybe in my case that doesn’t apply as I can be hella self-indulgent and mediocre at times! Another good thing could be this – if someone’s guesting on your blog then you don’t need to think of anything to write yourself for that day. Brilliant!! Have a different guest poster every day and you could retire from writing your own blog. :-)

I’m not sure of the etiquette there though? I mean if I’m guesting on The Smirk does that mean I can or cannot write a post for the same day on The Speckled Band? Is it good manners to write in my own blog as well or is that just greedy? I dunno? Then again maybe I should just write as my post for that day “No post here today – Check The Smirk for more information” or “The Smirk stole my post” or something similar to that? Maybe I’m just being silly and worrying about it too much? Bugger it, I reckon I will post here as well – unless someone asks me not to or I get too lazy (a distinct possibility there I’d have to say!)

All this talk of guest blogging does lead to a rather interesting issue though? If one of those lame ass, no content, one-liner blogs out there (you know the ones) has an equally lame ass, no content, one-liner blog as a guest post then how would that work? Would the post be “I can’t think of anything to write on – INSERT NAME HERE – blog” or “I had Corn Flakes for breakfast. Dunno what – INSERT NAME HERE – had? Nothing else happened today” or what?

Likewise, would it really matter?

You’re so funny. Glad your feeling better :-) I think people should write in their own blog even if they’re guesting somewhere else. You’re relieving the other person from a day of posting, not yourself.

    Yeah, I will write. :-)

Ahoy matey. Long time no talk. I been playin’ a new Pirate game ;) . I think if ye feel like postin’ go ahead, as tj said. I noticed ye ‘ave this brand new snazzy record on BotB… ‘ow’d ye do that, buckaroo?

Captain Jeff – Thanks matey. Basically with BotB I just deleted my blog (and all info) from my account and started again from scratch. It just seemed that the more I was playing, the lower down the ladder I was getting – so I wanted to see what would happen if I started again and only played a dozen or so games? I’ve had a few losses but it’s worked out OK so far?

Does this count as a one liner!

Comments are OK. It’s actual posts that I have a (slight) problem with. I guess it kinda says to the world that if you can’t be bothered writing a post and, if that’s the case, why would anyone else bother to read it?

Of course photo blobs are a bit different. After all a picture paints a thousand words anyway. The only other thing you may need is a description – which would probably just be a one-liner?

photo blobs? I think I’ll steer clear of these types of convos…

  8. Darn, I thought I was cleverly covering up my laziness. Don’t feel intimidated by my previous guests, I know you will shine, otherwise I never would have asked.

I think that if you have something you want to post on your own site the same day as the guest post, you should go ahead and do so. I certainly don’t think it would take away from your guest post. If anything, someone new to your site might think, “Hey, this is a great post, I’m going to go over to this other site and see what he has to say there.”

I think that the best side effect of the guest post is increased traffic to both blogs. It’s better than just a link to your site, because they get to see what you’re about first.

Amy – *pml* I spotted that yesterday and I was gonna fix it up, but then I got distracted. Of course everybody KNOWS I meant “Photo Blogs”, but it’s kinda funny so I’ll leave it like that.

Crazy Like A Fox – Yup, I will post on my blog as well, and the “cross-pollination” of readers between the two sites is a good thing.
