Blogging Choices.

A close friend of mine told me recently “It’s cool checking out your blog every so often, cause if I think you’re talking crap or rambling on a bit too much I can choose not to read it – as opposed to a phone call where I have to listen to everything you say in a linear kinda way”. After my initial shock of being told I talk crap – then realizing 1.5 seconds later that I actually do talk crap sometimes…..and I do tend to ramble on (like I am now) – I basically saw the merit in what my friend was saying.

It’s true! When you check out blogs you can “chop and change” what you want to read. You can choose to read some things and choose not to read others. I know that when I’m surfing blogs sometimes certain topics don’t hold that much interest for me, while others are deeply interesting. I don’t just mean the “random” blogs I come across here, but blogs I go to daily. I will usually read everything on my daily list, but some things I re-read over again because I have a particular interest in what the blogger is saying, while other entries I’ll just glance over and “get” the general drift of them.

This doesn’t mean that I find some entries boring or without merit – after all I wouldn’t be going to a blog every day if I felt that way now would I? Merely it’s more of a case that I don’t personally “identify” with the post to any great degree. For instance a post on childbirth or looking after kids might not get me roped in – but probably only because I’ve never given birth or had a lot of first hand experience with kids (as I don’t have any of my own). I would think that if I did have kids this would, most likely, change and I would be more interested in child-related posts. I know that happens with me when it comes to other things. I mean I didn’t really give a gnat’s clacker when it came to wireless networking at one time, but when I wanted to actually “go wireless” in the States at the start of 2004 I basically devoured everything I could find on the subject!

Likewise, many of my “real world” friends and family already know some of the things I write about on here, so I wouldn’t really expect them to read about them again – unless, of course, they’ve forgotten and want to refresh their memories, or I’m writing from a different angle than the one they already know about. That would make some sense at least.

I guess that’s what choice is all about?

Ohhh yeah, and Tom Cruise is a twit!

Haha. If only I could do that with my husband…check out his blog when I feel like it, but not have to listen to him ramble on and on…heh.

Oh wait, he would have to update his site more than once a month, though…

Yup……Unless he had nothing to say? :-)

Maybe we can just start giving “teasers” in our everyday lives? Like when we meet up with a friend or family member we say “Ohhh, yeah. Something really cool happened to me today. Read more about it in my blog”.

I wonder how long it would take before people got really pissed off with that idea!

  3. I have somewhat decided that blogging friends are my real friends for just that reason…Oh, yeah, make that CRAZY fucking dickhead!

Oh yeah, I agree. Online friends are real friends. I was just making a “physical” distinction between online friends and “flesh and bloods” around me……That kinda sounds, I dunno? A bit “Star Trekkie”?

And about the “CRAZY fucking dickhead” line – are you referring to Tom, or just getting a cheap shot in? ;-)

Bypassing entries or even blogs because I just can’t relate with ideals or thought processes. I know that some people want people to read what they are saying and to them, what they write is the important thing. However, their audience is specific and I’m not part of their audience.

The argument on one of my message boards is “read me, read me” but I have no desire to read them because I can’t relate to a lot of things. And sometimes, some people write stuff that is really too emotionally draining.

Gosh, I’ve rambled long enough! -=X

I guess I just wanted to say I agree with you! LOL

Thanks Alice…..though I was gearing myself up for the big disappointed “This is one of those posts/blogs I skip over” kinda response the way you were going there for a while!

Please feel free to skip my latest post though ;-)

  7. I love the “Tom Cruise is a fucking dickhead” theme you have going…lol.

Well that’s good! I have it lined up as a permanent footer for the next five days.

I felt a week of it was warranted!

lol. i like what your friend said. i never thought of it that way, but it’s true. blogs are also a way of checking up on people you don’t want to talk to. i know from being on the other end of that, sigh.

Yeah, I suppose that’s a downside to it? No-one can be bothered talking to you in real life. I hope for our sakes that doesn’t happen though….
