Sprucing Up The Blog
Some of you may have noticed that I’ve put a new banner up on the blog and soon I’ll be working on getting the layout closer to “my vision” of how I want it to be. In fact that’s a bit of a hurdle there as I don’t really have a vision at this stage. I’m hoping by trawling the net I’ll start to get some ideas as to what I want. There’s some cool, non generic, looking blogs out there and it would be good to do something visually interesting here as well.
So what’s with the new banner? Well, the three characters looking away from the screen are characters from an unfinished book of mine called “Weather Or Not”. They are – from left to right – Raymond, Haley and Willard (named after Willard Scott – the first Ronald MacDonald and the guy who does the weather on NBC’s Today Show). Why are they looking away from the screen rather than towards it? Well, in their defense, they didn’t actually know that there was going to be a screen behind them. Seriously though it’s just one of the scenes from the story where they’re about to go into the “forbidden room”. It’s also the only “rough” picture that’s finished at the moment but there’s parts of other pictures on the go. In retrospect though it probably would’ve been much better to have first done one of the pictures where their faces could be seen. That way it’s easier for people to “identify” with the characters better. Oh well, you live and learn!
Anyhow, I rescanned the original artwork, cut them out from the “page” with Photoshop’s lasso tool and pasted them in a new file. Then I thought “What next????”, and chucked a indigo oval with a stroke around it and the name of the blog in yellow (well, you can see that obviously so I’m not really sure why I’m describing it!) For some reason though I’ve always been partial to ovals? Dunno why? Anyway the bottom left hand side was looking a bit lonely so I chucked a few descriptive words of some of the things that I do there…..Only it looks like they describe the blog rather than the person behind it.
To tell you the truth it’s not quite there yet as far as banners go but I’m moving in a direction at least. The only thing I have to do now is work out exactly which direction I’m going in……but that’ll come with time.
I am concerned…when I opened you up from my page there was a bunch of gardeny stuff and a lemon slice…So, I headed over to the sidebar and hit “Boredom.” Now, there’s some chick up there looking like she stepped out of a fifties Vogue swimsuit issue. Before I hit the last two available, and I find myself, like Alice, transported into a cyberverse from which there is no return, just explain, what the hell’s going on?
Well, I didn’t disappear, but the choices did. I hit wordpress default, oops. What a silly girl I am. That is where I am and I don’t know if I will ever have the opportunity to find the three kids…Let you know when I figure out how to get there.
I love the characters and the fact they’re not facing the screen, it kind of leaves it to the imagination!
Suzi – I never thought of it like that? Yeah….I do like that idea actually. :-)
Princess Wild Cow – Ahhh, the theme switcher strikes! To tell you the truth I only have that down there – and allllllllllll the way down there – so that I can quickly check out things myself. I never thought others would be looking at different layouts to me. Would you mind at all if I temporarily disable it?
tj – Yup, that idea is starting to grow on me too now.
Yeah! I see the kids and the cat…I am one of those people who push every button there is…especially the ones that say…do not push.
I really like that they are looking away, and you can tell that they are definitely looking at *something*, you know? The cat’s posture especially gives the impression that there is something worth investigating. I think it’s an excellent heading for a blog. It says “Come on over here! I have something interesting to show you!”
*lol* OK then! I’ll keep that in mind….
Cam..I love the new look. I’ve got to troll through your site some more to discover more of what’s been going on with you. Haven’t been online much at all. I’m going to try and draw some pictures for Alistair’s story, so if you see him let him know! I told him I would get to them soon.
Hi Ames. Well take it easy. There’s a bit of “heavy stuff” up on here as you’d expect.
Yes..I’m not going to read up on all the heavy stuff..at least you’ve had somewhere to vent all the anger…in a way I can’t blame you for wanting to air it all for feedback. You’re forgiven.
Miss you lots..feeling much better..call me sometime. O.K.?
Will do, Ames. Love you!
